In our ’90 Seconds With…’ series, we go behind the scenes to learn a little more about the incredible people who make up the Cancer Wellness Support team.
This time, we’re catching up with Mary Donnelly. Since 2023, she’s been our Fundraising and Events Manager, focused on strengthening and expanding our established supporter base to ensure both immediate and long-term support for clients and carers.

What drew you to CWS in the first place, and what keeps you here?
I already knew of Cancer Wellness Support, our founder Robyn Yates OAM, and the incredible work being done, so I jumped at the chance to be part of it. What keeps me here now is simple – the people and the cause.
What’s one moment at CWS – big or small – that has really stayed with you?
In December 2024, we were part of the Trees of Hope at Penrith Panthers. A client came over to our CEO Deborah Shepherd and me and shared that she had just received the news she was in remission. She told us how much she appreciated the support she’d received through CWS. There were lots of happy tears and hugs, and it’s a moment I’ll never forget.
How does the power of community show up in the work you do each day?
As Fundraising and Events Manager, I’m constantly amazed by the generosity of our Blue Mountains, Penrith and Hawkesbury communities. Whether it’s buying tickets to our events or donating prizes, local people show up for Cancer Wellness Support in such meaningful ways. It really is a special community to be part of.
What book or show are you enjoying at the moment?
Don’t judge me, but I’ve watched all seasons of ‘Stranger Things’! I’m currently watching ‘Bridgerton’, and I’m always up for a good mystery, whether it’s a book or a show.
What’s your ideal travel destination, or a place still on your wish list?
Bali is always my go-to for a break, but Prague is high on my wish list. It just looks like such a beautiful place.
