His passion for community flows into this passion for Cancer Wellness Support with his legal and compliance focus adding a depth into his role as Secretary.
Paul’s career saw him appointed as Chief Executive Officer at the NSW Independent Transport Safety Regulator in January 2014, subsequent to his role as Executive Director, Corporate Services and Planning. Throughout his leadership, he played a pivotal role in leading significant workplace reforms.
Paul holds a Masters in Public Administration from The Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) and a Bachelor of Commerce and Human Resources from Western Sydney University.
Pat Atkinson brings a wealth of experience and insight to the Board, shaped by a distinguished career spanning senior management roles across the not-for-profit and corporate sectors.
With over 15 years at Probus South Pacific, a leading organisation supporting seniors in retirement, Pat served as General Manager, overseeing clubs throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific.
Her leadership was instrumental in strengthening community engagement and operational excellence across the region.
Prior to this, Pat spent a decade with Rotary Down Under, where she played a key role in the merchandising division, further honing her skills in member engagement and program development. Her professional background is marked by deep expertise in training, events management, and membership rewards programs, alongside a strong track record in fundraising, sponsorship acquisition, and community-building initiatives.
Pat’s capabilities extend to governance, strategic planning, marketing, and grant writing skills that have consistently driven impact and innovation in the organisations she has served. Since 2016, she has held a senior leadership role in her family’s industrial refrigeration business, the largest of its kind in New South Wales. There, she led staff training and spearheaded the development of robust documentation, compliance protocols, and workplace health and safety systems.
A long-time supporter of Cancer Wellness Support, particularly through its Op Shops, Pat is deeply committed to giving back to the local community. Her diverse and well-rounded skillset, combined with her passion for service and practical leadership experience, makes her a vital contributor to the strategic direction and governance of our Board.
With over 40 years of experience across business, finance, and leadership, Martin has dedicated his career to managing and reshaping organisations for long-term success.
Martin has held senior management roles across a diverse range of sectors including finance, retail, aged care, disability, community and commercial operations, bringing valuable insights from both the corporate and not-for-profit worlds.
His vast experience includes 15 years at Commonwealth Bank holding financial and accounting roles, Financial Accountant at David Jones, Group Manager of Financial and Commercial Services at Wesley Mission, Chief Operating Officer and Company Secretary at ParaQuad NSW, and General Manager at Blue Mountains Food Services.
He holds CPA status with CPA Australia and a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Finance from the University of Technology Sydney.
Motivated by a passion for positive change, Martin focuses on improving business processes and financial models to ultimately deliver better outcomes for clients and communities. He believes there is much that the corporate and not-for-profit sectors can learn from each other, and brings a flexible, strategic approach underpinned by strong financial and governance principles.
In 2024, Martin joined the Board of Cancer Wellness Support, where he contributes his expertise in accounting, financial management, strategic planning, governance and risk management. After seeing the organisation’s call for board members, he felt strongly aligned with CWS’s purpose and values, and was compelled to give back to his local community following the loss of his daughter to cancer in 2023.
As Cancer Wellness Support marks 20 years of impact, Martin is focused on ensuring its financial sustainability for the next 20 years. He is committed to enhancing financial reporting, aligning true costs and revenue, and refining the organisation’s profit-for-purpose model to help drive data-informed decisions and expand service delivery.
