A Moment of Gratitude & Celebration: 20 Years of Volunteer Support

During National Volunteer Week, we were thrilled to host a special event to honour the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and heart to Cancer Wellness Support.

Held at the picturesque Conservation Hut in Wentworth Falls, overlooking the stunning Blue Mountains escarpment, the event welcomed many of our dedicated volunteers for an afternoon of gratitude, laughter, and connection.

Although the day was rainy and grey outside, the room was filled with warmth, chatter, and smiles all around as an uplifting reminder of the joy our volunteers bring to everything they do.

As we mark 20 years of Cancer Wellness Support, this was a meaningful opportunity to pause and recognise the extraordinary contributions our volunteers make every single day.

While enjoying a delicious modern café-style lunch, heartfelt speeches were shared highlighting the vital role our volunteers play across every part of Cancer Wellness Support.

Whether our volunteers support our Op Shops, client services, events, fundraising, or our Board, we certainly could not operate without their selfless contribution to the CWS purpose.

A big thank you to Suzy Baker, who plays an essential role in coordinating all our events and ensuring every volunteer feels acknowledged and appreciated.

As part of our 20-year celebration, we reflected on the incredible 35,000 hours our volunteers give each year. Over the past two decades, this generosity has enabled Cancer Wellness Support to provide close to 100,000 therapies to more than 7,000 individuals and their families.

Among the special moments, one of our long-standing volunteers who was invited to cut the anniversary cake shared her wish with the group: “That Cancer Wellness Support continues to go from strength to strength for another 20 years.”

And while not everyone could attend the event, we didn’t miss the chance to celebrate with them.

The following Monday, we headed up to our Katoomba Op Shop to honour Barbara Start, who has generously volunteered with us for 19 years. Reflecting on her time with Cancer Wellness Support, Barbara shared, “It honestly feels like a family here.”

To all our volunteers – thank you. Your time, your care, and your commitment continue to make a lasting difference.
