**Brief History of Shelley**

The Shelley Family owned & operated under the title of Wileman & Co, using the trade name of Foley, from 1872 till 1925.

1st January 1925, the announcement was made that the Shelley family would start operating under the name Shelley.  Shelley was is in many ways like any other pottery in the world. However, they showed a distinctive development, particularly being influenced by public taste.

Shelley’s production line included bone china, tableware, harmony ware, commemorative & advertising ware, Mabel Lucie Attwell Nursery ware, jelly moulds & domestic ware.  Many products illustrate the styles of Art Deco & Art Nouveau, later after the 2nd World War started to reflect the balance between traditional & modern design. Shelley closed their doors in 1966.
