Finding Magic in Every Scene – Sue Colburt’s Art Exhibition Fundraiser

On 31 May, our community came together for an art exhibition by local artist Sue Colburt, with every dollar raised generously donated to Cancer Wellness Support.

Sue says “There’s so much cancer in my family, and it touches everyone in some way. I’ve had family and friends supported by Cancer Wellness Support as clients, and all of them speak so highly of the warmth and care they’ve received. I also have friends who work and volunteer at the Op Shops, and my daughter’s friend is one of the therapists. It’s such a vital service in our community, so I also wanted to do something to give back.”

The exhibition featured 30 vibrant, expressive works inspired by Sue’s life and travels, particularly with Italian and Portuguese influence. Each piece invited viewers to take a moment to pause and find a little bit of magic. Sue explains “Every painting is about how I see the world. I hope people find joy, beauty, and maybe even a little hope in them.”

The event was brimming with warmth and energy, with friends, clients, and guests traveling from across the Blue Mountains and Sydney to show their support. Viv Maitland, Client Services Manager at Cancer Wellness Support, gave a heartfelt talk about the therapies offered and how the funds raised would help provide care for local people living with cancer and their families.

Incredibly, Sue raised $1,808 for Cancer Wellness Support and sold 21 pieces on the day. One remaining artwork has now been generously donated to be raffled at our upcoming Dry July Trivia Night on Tuesday 22 July.

Sue reflects with gratitude, saying “It was such a beautiful day, full of fun, connection, and joy. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, and it means so much to be able to give people an uplifting experience while supporting such a wonderful cause.”

She also spoke of her own visit to the Robyn Yates Wellness Centre in Leura, saying “My husband and I were struck by the serenity of the grounds, the peacefulness of the space, and the staff who are just so beautiful, warm and welcoming.

Thank you, Sue, for your incredible generosity, talent, and heart. We look forward to seeing one of your stunning pieces at our Dry July event!
