Some Like It Heartfelt: Donating Marilyn Monroe Memorabilia for a Meaningful Cause

When Tania Sloan decided it was time to part with her beloved long-term Marilyn Monroe collection, featuring an impressive array of stamps, cards, calendars, commemorative plates and other memorabilia, it wasn’t just about decluttering.

Each piece held a special memory for Tania, after years of admiration for an incredible icon. Letting go was an emotional journey, and Tania wanted to ensure each item would find new homes where they would be valued and loved.

That’s why she chose to donate them to Gail Searle at our Penrith Op Shop, known for her warm approach and dedication to a meaningful cause.

Gail took the time to listen to the stories behind each item – why they were collected, what they meant to Tania, and the joy they had brought into her life. This act of kindness made all the difference, allowing Tania to feel confident that everything was in good hands.

To honour the collection, Gail set up a stunning Marilyn Monroe display. It was an instant hit, with most items finding new homes by the end of the day.

Tania has been part of the CWS community since 2015. To this day, Tania values the ongoing care she receives, attending her weekly lymphoedema massage before starting her workday.

For Tania, the decision to donate to Cancer Wellness Support wasn’t just about giving away items – it was about making a positive impact in her community. Knowing that every dollar raised would go directly toward affordable and accessible cancer care made this even more meaningful.

In her experience, larger donation centres may take items without much fanfare, but places like Cancer Wellness Support go the extra mile to ensure your stories are heard, your donations are appreciated, and your contributions directly support a vital cause.

At our Katoomba and Penrith Op Shops, your items are funding life-changing cancer care for those who need it most.
