Warmth and Knitting Kindness From Commonwealth Bank

At Cancer Wellness Support, we are always looking for personalised ways to create comfort, including the gift of a beautiful blanket which is chosen by new members at our Leura and Penrith Wellness Centres.

These blankets often end up holding special meaning for our clients and carers, travelling to appointments, providing warmth on challenging days, or becoming a cuddle companion for children or grandchildren.

When Bronwyn Shacallis, Area Manager for Penrith at Commonwealth Bank, learned about our blanket tradition, she knew she wanted to help. Rallying her staff and customers, Bronwyn has inspired a community-wide effort.

Local customers and community members have donated wool, and many wonderful individuals have lent their time and talent to knit and crochet the blankets. Among the incredible contributors are:

  • Jen Larcombe
  • Jacqueline Larcombe
  • Gwen Symes
  • Lynn Horn
  • Anne Hardimon
  • Turkan Genc
  • Judy Hibbard
  • Wendy McManus
  • Sonja Josephson.

A special mention to Jen Larcombe, who regularly drives to Forster and back where her Mum’s knitting group continues to create blankets.

These lovingly crafted blankets have been hand-delivered to our Wellness Centres and are now ready for new members to enjoy.

We’re deeply grateful to the Commonwealth Bank branches that have supported this initiative, including:

  • Penrith
  • Westfield Penrith
  • St Marys
  • Rouse Hill
  • Riverstone
  • St Clair
  • Stanhope Gardens
  • Windsor
  • Richmond
  • Katoomba
  • Springwood
  • Plumpton.

These branches have also displayed posters in their banks and community boards, helping to raise further awareness about Cancer Wellness Support.

To Bronwyn, the talented knitters, and the many local Commonwealth Bank branches who have contributed, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your generosity is a beautiful reminder of how one act of kindness at a time can create a big impact.
