Bygone Beautys Continue to Make a Lasting Difference

Long-term supporters since the very beginning of Cancer Wellness Support, we are incredibly grateful to Maurice G Cooper OAM and Kerry McKenzie of Bygone Beautys for continuing to host this special annual event.

Their dedication stretches right back to the early days of Cancer Wellness Support, standing beside our founder Robyn Yates OAM to help bring her vision to life and creating a community where people and families living with cancer can access the support they need, close to home.

Year after year, familiar faces and long-time supporters come together to celebrate the strength of community and the impact of supporting local people living with cancer.

On Thursday 9 April, more than 80 guests gathered at the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School for the Bygone Beautys Annual Cancer Wellness Support Fundraising Dinner.

We were honoured to welcome special guests Trish Doyle MP and Susan Templeman MP, who joined supporters, community members and friends for a memorable evening.

The night featured pre-dinner drinks and canapés, a delicious three-course menu, inspiring guest talks, and a silent auction, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere centred around community and care.

Special speeches throughout the evening highlighted both the future direction and real-life impact of Cancer Wellness Support, with Client Services Manager Viv Maitland sharing updates on three key strategic priorities: (1) strengthening support for carers, (2) expanding lymphoedema services, and (3) growing our Capacity Building Fund to help increase access to care for the future.

Guests also heard from Kathryn Hammond who shared how, after her husband’s cancer diagnosis, she discovered Cancer Wellness Support through Gail Searle while visiting our Penrith Op Shop. Still in shock from the diagnosis, Kathryn and her husband walked into our Penrith Wellness Centre, feeling instantly welcome and wrapped in genuine care. Her story highlighted how our Op Shops are not only fundraising hubs, but important pathways to connection and support.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity in the room, the evening raised an outstanding $18,220, with all funds staying local in the Blue Mountains region to support Cancer Wellness Support to service and assist our clients.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Maurice G Cooper OAM and Kerry McKenzie for their tireless efforts in organising CWS fundraisers, spreading awareness, and championing our purpose so passionately.
