Something exciting is taking shape in St Marys, and there has been plenty happening behind the scenes to bring our newest Cancer Wellness Support Op Shop to life.
With close to 15% of our community based in St Marys and surrounding suburbs, establishing an Op Shop in the area is an exciting next step for Cancer Wellness Support. It brings us closer to a community we already support, while creating another way to help keep our cancer services affordable and accessible for the people who need them.
After an extensive search to find the right space, we found the new home for our third Op Shop at Shop 1, 170 Queen Street, towards the top end of the St Marys town centre.
Following a soft launch, we’ll officially open on Monday 31 August, just in time to be part of the St Marys Spring Festival on Saturday 5 September.
Together, our Op Shops raise more than $2 million each year, generating vital funds that directly support our therapies, programs and services for people living with cancer, their carers and families.
Our new St Marys Op Shop will build on that impact, creating a welcoming place where people can shop, donate, volunteer and connect, knowing that their involvement helps support people affected by cancer in our local area.
Our Story So Far
It started with an enormous clear out (and there was plenty to clear out)!
Rather than simply disposing of what was already in the space, we found new homes for as much as possible. Equipment has been repurposed across our Op Shops and Wellness Centres, while other items have been shared with local schools and community organisations where they can continue to be put to good use.
In many ways, that spirit of renewal captures what we want St Marys to be about – giving things a new life, creating new connections and turning generosity into something that gives back.
Then the transformation began.
With the support of Real Estate and Development Solutions and the generosity of local tradespeople, the space has steadily been taking shape. Our staff, volunteers and supporters have rolled up their sleeves to clean, sort, move, set up displays, merchandise stock and tackle the countless jobs involved in bringing a new Op Shop to life.
We’ve also been fortunate to have the support of Commonwealth Bank, Our Community Cares, Froggys Removalist and Black Opal Promotional Products, who have once again stepped in to lend a hand. It is this willingness to get involved and contribute that makes projects like this possible.
Behind the look and feel, Lime Pixel Design has been helping us bring our brand to life, giving St Marys its own personality while remaining unmistakably Cancer Wellness Support.
There is still plenty happening behind the scenes, but already St Marys is becoming much more than a new shop. It is a place to connect and give back, where pre-loved goods are given another life, quality and affordability go hand in hand, and every purchase helps us continue providing affordable cancer care.
It is a wonderful example of something we see every day at Cancer Wellness Support: hope grows through community.
