Celebrating Volunteer Week: Embarking on a Magical Mystery Tour

At the heart of the communities we serve across the Blue Mountains, Penrith and Hawkesbury is a spirit of reciprocity that defines our work. We are deeply woven into the fabric of these communities, and this connection is embodied by our incredible volunteers.

Our volunteers are the backbone of Cancer Wellness Support, generously giving their time and skills across our Op Shops, wellness centres, fundraising events, truck drivers, tradespeople, and more. Without their support, we simply couldn’t continue providing essential services to local individuals living with cancer and their families.

In honour of National Volunteers Week, we organised a special celebration on Thursday 16 May to recognise and thank our volunteers for everything that they do.

We wanted to create an experience that was both memorable and unique, and planned a Magical Mystery Tour with gathering points at both our Robyn Yates Centre at Leura and our Penrith Op Shop. Our volunteers embarked on the journey with no clue about what was yet to come.

The excitement was electric as the bus arrived at our final destination – the Nepean Belle Paddlewheeler!

As we cruised along the Nepean River, we were blessed with a stunning autumn day with crisp air and clear blue skies as the perfect backdrop for celebrating our volunteers. Amidst the natural beauty, we took the opportunity to thank them for their service and the significant impact they have on Cancer Wellness Support and the lives of local people living with cancer.

Many of our volunteers have personal connections to cancer, having faced their own cancer journey or supported loved ones through theirs. This shared experience fuels their commitment and passion for helping the local community.

It’s no wonder that so many choose to stay with us for years, finding fulfilment, friendship and connection in their volunteer work.

We are so appreciative for the tireless efforts of our volunteers and are indebted to their dedication and service to the community.
