When you speak with John Eva, one thing becomes clear — volunteering isn’t just about giving time; it’s about giving heart.
After losing both his brother and partner to cancer, John wanted to do something meaningful, and something that could turn his grief into purpose. That’s when he found Cancer Wellness Support, and for the past eight years, he’s been a steady and compassionate presence in our community.
This year, John’s incredible contribution has been recognised at The Centre for Volunteering Awards, where he was named the 2025 Blue Mountains Volunteer of the Year.
Held at The Carrington Hotel in Katoomba, the event celebrated the remarkable efforts of volunteers across NSW. John was recognised for his outstanding advocacy and support for people living with cancer across the Blue Mountains, Penrith and the Hawkesbury.
For 19 years, these awards have shone a light on the extraordinary contributions of volunteers across NSW, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to see John’s dedication celebrated.
With an understanding that our CWS Op Shops (which generate over $2 million annually and 93% of our income) are crucial to sustaining the services provided, John takes pride in playing his part to ensure local people across the Blue Mountains, Penrith and the Hawkesbury continue to receive the support they need.
